Used Oil and Filter Recycling

About the Program

The city participates in a program designed to encourage residents to recycle used motor oil and filters. Residents can go to one of three local certified collection centers. Some centers will also collect oil filters free of charge and send them out to be recycled. Residents should call ahead to check with the center most convenient for them. Used motor oil is considered hazardous waste and improper disposal can contaminate soil, surface water, or drinking water.

Five-gallon used oil storage containers are available free of charge by calling the City of Brea Public Works Department at 714-990-7691. By participating in this program residents can help protect our environment from harmful pollution. For more information on oil and filter recycling, call 1-800-CLEANUP. This program is sponsored by a grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board and administered by the Environmental Health Division of the Orange County Health Care Agency.
