The Fire Prevention Bureau adopts and enforces codes and ordinances relative to fire and life safety issues, reviews plans and conducts inspections of construction projects, coordinates annual life safety inspections of all existing commercial buildings, and enforces brush clearance/weed abatement throughout the City of Brea.
Meet the Staff
Peter Salgado, Fire Protection Analyst (Acting Fire Marshal)
Peter Salgado has almost 13 years of experience in Fire Prevention. He started working in 2005 as a Volunteer Inspector for Garden Grove Fire Department. Soon after, he worked for Los Angeles County Fire Department, Monterey Park Fire Department and the last 10 years for Brea Fire Department. He currently holds the position of Fire Protection Analyst and is responsible for plan review, new construction and fire protection system inspections; as well as code interpretation.
Laura McClain, Fire Prevention Specialist II
Laura was hired on June 15, 2022. She has 15 years of experience in Fire Prevention and worked at the Fullerton Fire Department before coming to Brea. She has held the positions of Fire Prevention Specialist I, Fire Prevention Specialist II and Hazardous Materials Specialist. Laura was in charge of weed abatement, the inspection program, life safety and hazardous materials and complaint inspections. In 2017, she attended the National Fire Academy for Wildland Urban Interface training for Fire-Adapted Communities. In her free time, Laura enjoys traveling with her husband. She is a huge Chicago Blackhawks fan, so Chicago and its beautiful architecture and wonderful restaurants are at the top of her list. She also enjoys spending time with her dog that is a Hurricane Harvey Survivor.
