Brea’s Centennial Parade steps off with a procession along Birch Street beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18. Early parade entries promise a mix of dancers, acrobats, musicians, animals, classic cars and local personalities. Community groups and schools will show their spirit with hometown flair. The Centennial Parade route begins at the east leg of Associated Road and Birch Street and heads east to Voyager Avenue.

Community celebration continues with the Centennial Picnic at the Brea Sports Park from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Brea Ministerial Association is coordinating varied food booths featuring 1917 prices. Baseball games, including a re-enactment of the legendary Babe Ruth vs. Walter Johnson exhibition match-up in 1924, will span the afternoon. Plus, live performances, a classic car show, games and a kids’ petting zoo will involve all ages in festivities. On stage, entertainers from Brea’s sister cities will surely be a highlight.

That same evening, a Brea Art Gallery red carpet gala premieres a rare and unique exhibit from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. The Birth of Motion Pictures: An Illustrated History of Silent Cinema 1910-1929 is an exclusive collection being unveiled along with other significant memorabilia reflecting American culture during Brea’s founding era. Guests will dress up to attend this special reception featuring refreshments, silent movie screenings and live entertainment.

Brea’s actual Birthday Celebration on Thursday, February 23, will be commemorated at 6:00 p.m. for salutes and and socializing. Attendees can inspect contents from the 75th year time capsule. There will be birthday cake for all the well-wishers.

Souvenir merchandise; shirts, caps, magnets and patches will go on sale at the Brea Community Center in early February and at the Centennial events.
