[ARCHIVED] Computer Systems Functioning at City Facilities

IT professionals restored have restored computer networks at City facilities. Email and telephones are functional. If you experience problems sending email to City staff, please continue to use the temporary city email addresses listed below. We appreciate your patience.

November 25 Update:
Computer systems at all City facilities are coming back online. Email is anticipated to be restored by the end of the week. In the meantime, please continue to use the temporary City email addresses. Telephones at all facilities were intermittently working as of Monday morning, but are now operational again.

Last week, City computer systems were struck with a virus. To contain and isolate it, Brea IT professionals shut down all computer workstations, took servers offline and blocked network access to the City. Once the virus was identified, IT prioritized critical systems and began downloading backups to methodically bring systems up again. To operate the City, there are over 60 servers, more than 300 desktop computers, and more than 50 applications. Bringing everything back up in a cautious manner will take time.

We appreciate your patience as City facilities remain open and functioning during this time. We will continue to provide updates as IT professionals successfully work through remaining computer system issues.

November 22 Update:
City Hall continues to be open for business as IT professionals successfully work through computer system issues. It is anticipated to have most systems available by Monday, November 25. City telephones are still able to make and receive calls, but voicemail remains offline. Please continue to use the temporary email accounts, listed below, that were set-up to better serve you at this time. Regular City email is not yet available.
