On Friday, March 3, the City of Brea was featured live on the KCAL (channel 9) and CBS (channel 2) morning news as part of their SoCal Spotlight city of the week. News crews were in Brea the day before filming b-roll of the downtown, Art in Public Places sculptures, and interviewing residents and visitors of our city. Friday morning, reporter Sheba Turk and her news crew, arrived to do multiple live segments throughout Brea.
The first live news segment was from the Brea Museum & Historical Society. They showed viewers artifacts inside the museum and what once used to be the city jail. Their next stop was at the Brea Civic & Cultural Center to interview Mayor Marty Simonoff and showcase the city’s robust cultural arts offerings. Mayor Simonoff talked about Brea’s diverse community amenities, it’s Art in Public Places program, the Curtis Theatre, modernizing Arovista Park by adding an all-accessible playground, and Brea’s “small town feel.” The Brea Art Gallery was the next location for the live news segment. Community Services Supervisor Heather Bowling lead the news crew on an abbreviated tour of the gallery’s current exhibit, Domestic Detritus. Then, the news crew rushed to Alicia’s Cookery, Catering & Gifts for their last live segment from Brea.
Some of the news segments can be found on CBS and KCAL’s YouTube channel, as well as linked below.
