Learn how to use the subtractive method to create a luminous charcoal drawing with artist and instructor Salem Cade. Although charcoal is traditionally used as an additive material, the ‘subtractive method’ is often used by artists to explore the possibilities of the medium while creating beautiful drawings that focus on the contrast between light and dark. Students will be able to familiarize themselves with the medium by doing sketches and value studies before creating a detailed and beautiful masterpiece to take home. Whether you are a beginner or are very familiar with charcoal, this fun, insightful workshop is one you will not want to miss!

- 1 sheet of Canson Mi Tientes grey paper (Flannel, Steel, or Pearl Grey)
- 1 sheet of Canson Mi Tientes White paper
- Sketch book or sketching paper
- 2B Pencil
- White artist tape
