[ARCHIVED] May is Older Americans Month

Older Americans Month

Historically, Older Americans Month has been a time to acknowledge the contributions of past and current older persons to our country. Every President since JFK has issued a formal proclamation during or before the month of May asking that the entire nation pay tribute in some way to older persons in their communities. Older Americans Month is celebrated across the country through ceremonies, events, fairs, and other such activities.

The 2014 Older Americans Month theme is “Safe Today. Healthy Tomorrow.” Join the Brea Senior Center in Celebrating Older Americans Month all throughout May, highlighted by these events:

Free General Health Assessments
Thursday, May 1 & 15
Basic health screenings and follow-up for seniors with special needs and health issues.

Caregiver Resources
Thursday, May 1
Information on increasing the quality of life for caregivers by helping families and communities master the challenges of caregiving.
