[ARCHIVED] Current Drought Demands A 20% Water Savings

Half of Orange County's water supply is imported from other areas. After 14 years of drought at the Colorado River and only 32% of needed Northern California snow pack, new supplies are scarce. Storage reservoirs are being drawn down fast. So, every drop of drinking water from your taps must be used wisely. Answer the call for all Californians to reduce personal daily water use by 20%.

Little things really do add up. For instance, scrape and stack dishes in the sink for a quick group rinse instead of continuously running water down the drain. Better yet, put them straight into that dishwasher and don't run it until full. Turn water on and off only as needed during tooth brushing and bathing. Use a commercial car wash instead of allowing water to pour over hard pavement and be wasted. Never use an outdoor hose without a control nozzle to efficiently target spray. Save 19 gallons daily with a high efficiency toilet. Consider rebate opportunities to reduce landscape irrigation use, which gulps 50% of a typical home's consumption.
