The City of Brea is joining other North Orange County cities and California State University Fullerton (CSUF) to host a symposium on local oil extraction practices. This free public forum will take place on Tuesday, September 23, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Titan Student Union.
Increasingly residents have posed questions and raised concern about oil industry operations, and in particular fracking, that may be used in the region. The State of California holds authority over these operations, not local municipalities. Technical aspects of oil drilling encompass the fields of seismology, hydrology, geology, and more. Therefore, the cities of Brea, Fullerton, Placentia, Yorba Linda and La Habra are collaborating with CSUF to bring scientific expertise into a discussion of the current situation within the northern foothills of Orange County.
The CSUF symposium will include formal presentations and an interactive panel discussion on regulatory and policy aspects. Panelists are being selected by the CSUF College of Natural Sci-ences and Mathematics. Audience members are encouraged to RSVP to assure adequate seating. Attendees may also submit advance questions so that the moderator can be sure to cover key concerns.
