[ARCHIVED] Businesses: Beware of Fraudulent Fire Inspector Scheme

Brea Fire Department personnel will arrive to conduct inspections wearing a dark blue uniform and badge. This style of dress is usually copied by the scam operations. Brea inspection personnel will be driving a either a fire apparatus or other service vehicle bearing the city seal. As employees of the City, they will always produce an official City of Brea identification.

Recently, there have been reports of deceptive fire inspection companies approaching Brea businesses unannounced and soliciting fees. Owners should be suspicious of anyone offering such service, no matter how authoritative they may be in presenting paperwork for signature. Unless a business has a specific contract with a private fire protection service for maintenance purposes, they should never allow anyone access to their fire extinguishers, sprinkler or hood systems or any other protection devices. Never sign any documents until the proper, official City of Brea identification has been presented.

If solicited, and you did not call for this service, refuse the inspection. If concerned, you may request the Brea Fire Department to inspect your business to advise you of any needed service to your system.

Please call 714-990-7655 with any questions. You should also notify the Brea Police Department at 714-990-7911 for assistance if you observe suspicious inspection solicitations underway near your business.
